“When you play good defense your offense comes easy,” Martin said. “That is what my coach and my dad always tells me so I just follow up with it.”
To highlight the decisive 15-2 run in the third quarter, Martin stole a couple of long passes and pushed the ball in transition to nail a pair of jumpers from the top of the key.
Just before the end of the frame, Martin made another steal, which eventually resulted in an easy layup for junior Davion Wingate who finished with a game-high 22 points.
“Davion is my girl so when I’m in trouble I look to her and she comes through,” Martin said. “It’s either me or her that you have to worry about.”
Senior Darsan DeShazier was the next leading scorer with 12 points and freshman Jada Walton had nine rebounds and four assists in Southwest DeKalb’s first game since Jan. 24 due to inclement weather.
“We were doing group chats every day, saying how we missed each other,” said Martin, who also had 14 rebounds. “It was hard not being in the gym with the girls.”
