Morgan Lyons sets the tone for the Alpharetta girls’ swim team.

The senior team captain has once again lead the way for Alpharetta, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 1.69 seconds at the Fulton County Championships at Marist Jan. 11 to send the Raiders to a third-place finish in the team standings.

She hopes to help Alpharetta to another impressive finish in the Class AAAAAA girls’ competition at the state meet at Georgia Tech this weekend, swimming in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Lyons is looking to improve on her performances at last year’s state meet, when she finished third in the 100 freestyle (52.31 seconds) and eighth in the 100 butterfly (57.01 seconds) in the AAAAAA girls’ competition.

Alpharetta coach Lisa Marshall said Lyons’ value to the team goes beyond her abilities in the pool.

“Morgan is a second-year captain, so she brings a lot of leadership as well as being a talented swimmer,” Marshall said.

“She has a lot of personality and she sets the tone for these girls to follow.”

Lyons is being recruited by a number of NCAA Division I colleges, including Georgia Tech, Alabama and LSU.
