When Marist senior Kendall Baker said he was going to Georgia back in July, he really meant it.

“I had my mind set on Georgia because I wanted to represent my home state,” said the 6-foot-6 defensive tackle. “I was born and raised here. I got the opportunity when they gave me the offer to represent the state and now I have that chance.”

Last Wednesday, Baker confirmed his decision to become a Bulldog when he signed his letter of intent.

“I was just happy to see my family and friends all happy — the look on my mom’s face when I finally signed the papers,” Baker said. “I told her I’m going to get my way through college so there is nothing to worry about.”

Baker said he will be expected to protect the quarterback in college instead of pursuing the quarterback.

“I just want to get in and go work hard,” Baker said. “I want to be able to get in the rotation some kind of way. I got to go up there with my mind right.”

Baker also realizes football at the Division-I level will require a new level of determination.

“I think that challenge will be good for me because I never really had a challenge like that,” he said. “It’s always been I’m the big guy on the field but now everybody is big. Everybody is good.”
