Most of the players who were instrumental in Stockbridge’s previous back-to-back 11-2 seasons shared a memorable moment in the school’s basketball gym on National Signing Day.

With many family members and friends present, 11 football players signed scholarships, including highly-recruited Kendarius Webster who decided to stick to his verbal commitment and sign with Mississippi.

“The best thing about playing at Ole Miss is that I’m playing in the best conference in college football,” Webster said. “I get a chance to pretty much show the world what I am really made of.”

This past season, Webster had 54 tackles, seven interceptions and two forced fumbles en route to being named Region 4-AAAA Defensive Player of the Year.

“I’m ready to go in and work hard so I can fight for a position on the field,” Webster said.

Other well-known members of the team to sign were Malik Bryan (Edward Waters), Maetron Thomas (Charlotte) and Javon Brandon (Tennessee State).

“Edward Waters has a new head coach and he talked to me about how he wanted to turn the program around,” Bryan said. “He made me feel welcome and he said if I come in and do what I’m supposed to do as a freshman, I can start and be a part of turning the program around.”

“The best thing about playing college will be the speed and competition,” Thomas said. “I’m not going to say high school competition was easy but it will be more competition and more talent at the next level. It will be harder for me to do what I did last year.”

The rest of the Tigers who officially committed were Anthron Brocks (Hampden-Sydney), Mike Pritchett (Clark-Atlanta), Rod Carson (Edward Waters), Ta’Varis Odom (Miles College), Timarcus Cullins (Albany State), Cam Gordon (Miles College) and Antonio Mallard (CAU).

“I’m just proud of everybody,” Thomas said. “We worked so hard as a team.”
