Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta Tuesday announced its 24th annual Race for the Cure will be held at Lenox Square in Buckhead May 10 at 8 a.m.

The 5K run/walk and one-mile walk down Peachtree Road will raise funds for Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, which provides life-saving breast health services to medically underserved women in metro Atlanta. The event took place at Atlantic Station last year, but with Komen Greater Atlanta recently moving its offices to Buckhead, it wanted to host the race there.

This year, an expected 14,000 Atlantans will participate in the event, raising about $1.4 million to enable thousands of Atlanta women to detect and survive breast cancer. Funds also will support research to help cure breast cancer.

“Race for the Cure is our largest and most important fundraising event,” said Cati Diamond Stone, executive director of Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta. “And this year’s Race for the Cure will be even bigger and better than before. Our new venue, Lenox Square, will kick off an optimal race course through the heart of Buckhead, with unique opportunities for pre- and post-event activities.”
