Originally set to take place this past weekend, the Georgia High School Association Traditional Wrestling State Championships has made changes to the venues due to the inclement weather during the winter storm which hampered the training of athletes.

The event usually has been held in the Macon Coliseum with all six high school classes performing together. However, each class will hold its own championship event at a separate venue Friday and Saturday.

Alexander will travel to West Laurens High School in Dexter for the Class 4A meet. The Cougars are one of the strongest teams in the state and coming off a third-place finish at the Sectionals two weeks ago.

After winning the state championship in 2010, Alexander has placed second at the state meet the past three seasons.

This season, the Cougars will send 12 wrestlers to the state meet including 138-pound sectional winner Roman Boylen. He placed second in the state meet last season.

Other Alexander grapplers who will be at state include Brentyn Russell (106/eighth place at sectionals), Bryce Hollomon (120/fourth place), Jason Stimphill (126/fourth place), Ryan Ashe (132/sixth place), Tony Johnson (145/second place), Chris Achenbach (152/second place), Matthew Beske (160/ninth place), Muhammed Ansari (170/second place), Johrre Statham (182/seventh place), Spencer Gray (195/second place), William Brown (220/sixth place) and Jeremy Boswell (285/fourth place).

Douglas County High School will participate in the Class 6A meet at Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek. Kalum Lo Vargas will compete in the 138-pound weight class along with Solomon Greene (145), Joshua Owens (152), Quincy Peagler (170), Travis Beaird (182), Desmond Wareham (195), Michael Parris (220) and Quinzavious Sands (285). Sands finished sixth at the state meet last season.

Chapel Hill travels to Buford High School for the Class 3A meet with Jacoby Walker competing in the 138-pound weight division and Malcolm Holmes for the 145-pound division.

The Class 5A meet will be held at Loganville High School with Lithia Springs’ Justin Merriwether qualifying for the 160-pound division.
