Hundreds will party for a purpose March 8 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta as ShamRockin’ for a Cure raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The sixth annual fundraiser, presented by Georgia’s Own Credit Union, will feature food and drinks from at least 12 local restaurants and vendors, silent and live auctions with hundreds of exciting items and live music by BandX.

“We want [attendees] to have an incredible experience,” said event co-chair Lara Dolan.

“We want them to get a new awareness of cystic fibrosis and what it is and what it means to live with it or have a family member with cystic fibrosis.”

Cystic fibrosis is a chronic, genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system.

Dolan said the fundraiser has raised $525,000 in five years. This year’s goal is to net $275,000, she said. “The money from that event goes directly to support the development of new drugs to fight the disease, to improve the quality of life for those living with the disease and ultimately to find a cure,” said Amy Alvarez, senior director of development of the Georgia chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“As an organization, we have provided more dollars towards research [than any other organization], and actually most of the drugs that are on the market for cystic fibrosis patients have either been partially funded or completely funded by us.”

Tickets for the event are $85 in advance with the price to go up to $95 on Saturday.
