Early in the fourth quarter last Saturday against Marietta, the Luella Lady Lions appeared in good position to extend their stay in the Class AAAAAA postseason, but unfortunately, the Lady Blue Devils had other plans.

Sophomore Sade Jacobs had 20 points and 14 rebounds but Luella couldn’t hold off Marietta, resulting in a season-ending 53-47 home loss in the first round of the playoffs.

With plenty of time left in the fourth quarter, senior Kristina Stewart nailed a 3-pointer for a Lady Lions’ 39-31 advantage.

But from thereon, the momentum began to shift, thanks to consecutive three-point plays by Jacky Jones for a 39-36 score with 5:29 remaining. After both teams added a point to their total, Tatiana Foster drained a jumper to knot the score at 40-40 with four minutes left.

Jacobs made a 3-pointer to give the Lady Lions the lead once more but a layup by Asia Blu Wilson tied the score for the last time, while triggering a decisive 9-0 run for Marietta.

Oddly, the Lady Blue Devils scored all their points from the foul line, sinking 9-of-10 attempts. Wilson led the way with 20 points and Jones added 14.
