Two Paulding Board of Education members in seats up for election this year say they will seek re-election in the May 20 primary.

School board members Nick Chester of District 2, and Kim Curl of District 6 will seek re-election, they said last week. Both turned in their paperwork to qualify for the positions Monday.

A third school board member, Sammy McClure of District 5, could not be reached by phone and did not return emails for comment.

Earl Cosgrove turned in his paperwork to run for McClure’s District 5 seat Monday.

The deadline is Friday for qualifying, and candidates could withdraw or not qualify before then, election officials said.

Curl, a business owner who is seeking a sixth term, said he wanted to ask re-election because of his love for the school system. He also wanted to use his business experience for the benefit for taxpayers.

“I had my four children go through [Paulding schools]. I believe in public education,” he said.

Chester, an attorney seeking a second term, said his “overwhelming support in the community” prompted him to seek another term.

“They appreciate what I’ve done so far,” he said.

He said he wanted to make sure the school system continues to operate in a way that is both fiscally sound and produces good results.

“The key thing is to continue to invest in personnel and have our school system continue to operate at a high level,” Chester said.
