Alexander wrestler Roman Boylen completed a dominating season by winning the Class AAAA state championship in the 138-pound division at West Laurens High School in Dexter on Feb. 22.

The junior pinned Tyler Hill of Heritage in less than 35 seconds to secure the title in the championship match.

Boylen has had an exemplary career at Alexander, winning a state title as a freshman and earning a finals appearance as a sophomore despite an injury-filed season.

“It was awesome to get my title back, especially coming back from a broken season last season,” Boylen said. “It’s the best feeling in the world. I thank my family who has supported me along with teammates and coaches.”

Head coach Sean Moistner said Boylen “is able to block out all distractions while he’s wrestling and concern himself with scoring a point.”

“He’s a very driven young man in his classroom work and in his relationships,” the coach said.

Boylen, who’s an avid sportsman, already has set his sights on other goals this year on the mat, wrestling for Team Georgia, a club team led by Moistner, this spring and summer.

“I’ll begin training again this week because there are some big tournaments coming up and I’m trying to be nationally ranked,” Boylen said.

Boylen has a strong interest in the medical field and may major in psychology upon entering college next fall.
