EDITOR:

On Feb. 16, Secretary of State [John] Kerry’s climate speech in Indonesia ripped into those who disagreed with his thinking, saying, “We should not allow a tiny minority of shoddy scientists and science and extreme ideologues to compete with scientific fact.” In addition, he claimed climate changes are leading to drought, wildfires and other extreme conditions requiring a new global energy policy that shifts fossil fuels use to solar and wind.

Tens of millions of thinking Americans are offended by our secretary of state on foreign soil calling us a “tiny minority of shoddy scientists and science and extreme ideologues. ...” No precedent for these actions.

Kerry’s list of weather events have centuries of data showing all events occurred when carbon dioxide levels were not increasing; surprisingly, in the last few decades many events are less frequent and powerful. Kerry’s claim the vast majority of scientists back him is refuted by the Oregon petition (www.petitionproject.org) in which 31,487 scientists, including 9,029 PhDs, stated fossil fuel burning is inconsequential.

Abundant energy is the blood of modern society that led to more comfortable, prosperous and longer lifespans. Kerry proposes replacing abundant, reliable and inexpensive fossil fuels with expensive, unreliable and, in short supply, solar and wind. History will show Kerry’s energy policies are similar to the pre-20th-century medical practice of bloodletting - patients [are] not cured and some die.

Fossil fuels are not renewable. Eventually we will run out of them!
