Mikell Lands-Davis has been a member of two record-setting teams at Alexander this year.

The junior helped lead the boys’ basketball team to a 26-win season, an undefeated Region 5-AAAA record including winning the region tournament and advancing to the semifinals of the state playoffs for the first time in program history.

Lands-Davis scored a team-high 17 points in Alexander’s 66-49 home victory over Carrollton in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. The Cougars’ season concluded on March 1 with a 78-75 overtime loss to eventual state champion Jonesboro in the semifinals.

“The season was shaky at first because we had raw talent,” Lands-Davis said. “We started 5-3 but went on a 21-game winning streak because everyone clicked together and got better each contest.”

Basketball head coach Jason Slate said, “Mikell does everything well and has the ability to play every position on the floor which makes him very versatile. He’s also an excellent leader on and off the floor.”

For the football team, Lands-Davis became one of the top players in the Southeast, rushing for 2,374 yards and 27 touchdowns this past season and earned All-State honors.

Lands-Davis is a member of the Future Farmers of America off the field. He will pursue a career in kinesiology or sports management.
