But the festivities are bittersweet because the store is downsizing and will close its showroom this spring. Don Montgomery, who co-owns Migliore with jewelry designers Wynn Henderson and Jenny Acree, said it will move to an office and will continue to do custom work and repairs plus sales on special order. But the time had come to slow down, he said.
“We’re all in that age bracket,” Montgomery said. “I’m 63 at the end of this month and my other two partners are a bit older. … I think we’re all looking forward to it, particularly to have more time to indulge ourselves with the things we haven’t had the time to do [in the past]. Both of my [business] partners have grandchildren and we all want to spend more time with family and friends.”
The store is having a 50 percent off sale today through its showroom closing, which could come in late May, Montgomery said. He also said Migliore, which has been in the Cates Center on East Andrews Drive since it opened in 1990, would like to remain in the center when it moves to an office.
“We want to utilize the retail shop as long as we can to get rid of the inventory we currently hold,” Montgomery said, adding he is not sad to see the showroom go. “It’s a new beginning for things. It’s closing one chapter but opening another.”
