DeKalb DA Robert James to host defense bar luncheon March 25

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James will host a special luncheon for local defense attorneys March 25.

The event begins at 11:45 a.m. in the fourth floor media room of the DeKalb County Courthouse, 556 N. McDonough St. in Decatur, and will focus on pre-trial diversions programs available through the district attorney’s office.

“Defense attorneys play a vital role in our justice system," said James. "The goal of this program is to share the benefits of our division programs, drug court and mental health court with the defense attorneys throughout the metro area.”

During the event, attorneys will learn about various diversion program offered in superior court and recorders court. Information will be provided on program eligibility and criteria.

“Every defendant doesn’t deserve to go to jail," said James. "Some young people need a second chance at life. Our diversion program offers life skills and professional development courses to steer them back on track."
