Briana Sobel is one of the key players that the Milton girls’ soccer team is relying on in its bid for a second state championship in three years.

The senior defender is among the veteran leaders on the team and anchors a strong Eagle defensive unit that has allowed only 1.4 goals a game through the first seven contests of the 2014 season.

Milton community coach Philip Broome said he is impressed with Sobel’s combination of leadership and playing skills.

“Briana is a great leader,” Broome said.

“She leads by example with her presence on the field. Although she is not vocal, her leadership is very apparent. She is our quarterback in the backfield and she is a rock out there.”

Sobel, who is in her third season on the Milton varsity and was a key player on the Eagles’ 2012 Class AAAAAA state championship team, also plays club soccer for the United Futbol Academy in Cumming.
