The senior midfielder is doing more of the same in his final high school season, scoring two goals for the fifth-ranked Knights. Wendt score the game-tying free kick from 30-yards out in the second half of Centennial’s crucial 2-1 victory over Region 6AAAAAA rival Lambert March 7 and had a goal in the Knights’ 4-1 win over North Forsyth Feb. 28.
He was a key player on both Centennial’s Class AAAAAA state quarterfinal team last year as well as its state runner-up squad in 2012 – contributing an assist in the Knights’ 3-1 championship game loss to Collins Hill.
“He’s been on the varsity for three years and has been a presence in the midfield,” Centennial coach Phil Thomas said. “What he brings is a lot more athleticism than you would think. He is really taking the ball from our midfield and bringing it to the attack. He’s a good distributor of the ball. In the Lambert game, he definitely took over that game. He was playing against one of the better players in the state and handled himself really well.”
