Now in its third year, the market will run from 9 a.m. to noon starting Saturday at the Brookhaven Baptist Church.
The market will feature more than 30 different vendors, many of them local to the city, selling a variety of fresh food such as produce, eggs, meats and cheeses as well as homemade goods like soups, drink mixes and coffees.
Many of the products will be gluten free, vegetarian and vegan.
The vendor list includes familiar favorites such as Double B Farms, Dillwood Farms, West Wind, FarmMobile, Fat Lady Baker, Mad Mamma, Orobianco, Strippaggio Olive Oils, Ratio Bakeshop and some new participants this year, including Blue Donkey Coffee.
Amy Smith and Christie Bearden, both organizers and vendors at the market, said this year has the potential to be the best event to date.
“We’re adding a lot of great features like chef demos, more seating and tents for shade and activities for kids,” Smith said.
Smith and Bearden said there will also be weekly raffles for an insulated bag filled with goods from different vendors.
“One of the biggest draws to our farmers market is that we provide food that can be eaten on site, including really delicious breakfast sandwiches made from ingredients from our vendors,” Smith said.
Board members for the market have been hard at work advertising for the market and encouraging city residents to shop locally.
“We have sponsors this year, including Cook’s Warehouse, and we just produced banner art and started a plant a sign campaign, so we’re asking customers to place a sign advertising the market in their yards,” Smith said.
The goal of the market this year, Smith and Bearden said, is to show the community they can find great local products without having to drive to a farmers market outside of Brookhaven.
“With Brookhaven now being a city, the market should be a huge draw for our community,” Bearden said. “We’re really excited about the potential and it’s great to bring a variety of products to one place for all of our residents to enjoy.”
