The pitching mound is a comfortable place for Tucker junior Jake Lovvorn and he has the statistics to prove such so far this season.

“I just feel like I’m at home on the mound,” Lovvorn said. “I’m in control and nobody can stop me but myself.”

Currently, Lovvorn has 34 strikeouts in four starts and an ERA below one.

“It’s a take no prisoner’s mentality,” Lovvorn said. “You really got to attack the hitters--go for the strikeouts. You want to blow it by them. You want them to look stupid.”

In his last start, the lefthander had 11 strikeouts without any walks and allowed just three hits in a 1-0 setback to Stephenson on March 19.

“My curveball was feeling really good,” Lovvorn said. “My arm felt loose. I was throwing pretty hard. I can’t give you the miles per hour but I felt like I was throwing good. That is the loosest I felt all season.”

Lovvorn said he is scheduled to pitch next against Dunwoody on Friday.

“Dunwoody is a good team,” Lovvorn said.

When Lovvorn is not on the mound, he spends time at first base as well and hopes to be as close as dependable there also.

“My future is in pitching but I want to focus on first base as well,” he said. “I want to be as valuable as I can on the market.”
