At the DeKalb County Track and Field Championships on March 31, Miller Grove senior Tiffany Flynn wasn’t feeling her best but well enough to compete and help the Lady Wolverines capture their first-ever county title.

For the second straight year, Flynn, a Mississippi State commit, won gold in the triple jump, long jump and 100-meter hurdles.

“At county, she was sick and it was to a point where I had to put somebody else in but she wanted to run,” Miller Grove girls’ track and field coach Eric Keddo said. “It was almost like Michael Jordan when he was sick.”

The 4x100 and 4x400 teams also came in first along with senior Tatiyana Caffey, who won the 800-meter race, to help Miller Grove score a total of 119 points.

“I felt proud because the team never won county overall and we made history for our school,” Flynn said.

Last year, Flynn won the triple jump at the state finals but came in second in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles to Kendell Williams, who graduated from Kell and now attends Georgia.

“Tiffany was in the shadow of one of the best in the nation, Kendell Williams” Keddo said. “She learned from that and now I think she is going to take her place and just dominate the whole thing.”

The state finals begin May 1.
