East Point apartment fire under investigation

The following statement is from the East Point Fire Department:

The cause of an apartment fire last night [April 13] is under investigation today. At 7:56 p.m.. yesterday, East Point Fire crews were dispatched to 2900 Concord Court on a two-story brick apartment complex containing eight apartment units. Upon arrival at 7:58 P.M., crews found heavy smoke coming from the roof, on the front side of the structure and occupants of the apartments safely evacuated outside. Fire units launched an offensive attack, deploying lines to the interior of the structure. The fire quickly extended to the roof, forcing firefighters to evacuate and operate in a defensive mode. Crews had the fire under control at 8:17 p.m. The roof sustained heavy fire damage with a partial collapse. About 75 percent of the structure suffered fire and water damage. Rural Metro Ambulance provided a rehabilitation section for firefighters. The American Red Cross was summoned to assist 18 to 20 residents displaced by the fire.

East Point Engines 2, 3, 4, Tower 3, Rescue 4, Car 902 and Public Information Officer Renita Shelton responded for a total of 16 East Point fire personnel on the scene. College Park dispatched one engine with four personnel and a command team of one, for a total of five personnel. Overall, a total of 21 fire personnel were at the scene. East Point Police were also on scene and established perimeter protection. There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.
