After having all of her individual basketball accolades capped with a state championship, Tucker senior Erykah Davenport is ready for the challenges that playing for Miami, Fla., will bring.

“This summer will be very rigorous,” Davenport said. “I’m going to have to put in a lot of work for a very talented D-I team. This journey will require a lot of work. I just want to stay focused and be able to get better so when I get there I will be well prepared.”

Davenport plans to extend her shooting range and become more comfortable playing on the perimeter. She also knows she has to be more disciplined defensively.

“I have to work on not fouling because that was crucial throughout our season,” Davenport said.

As far as last season, Davenport averaged nearly 14 points and eight rebounds for the 29-4 Lady Tigers, who surprisingly cruised to an 83-63 win over Southwest DeKalb in the Class AAAAA title game.

“We went out with a bang our senior year,” said Davenport, who had 11 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and five assists in the contest. “We just wanted to finish strong. Southwest is a great team. We just came full force and knew what we had to do to get it done and made it happen.”

“She brings a very versatile skill set on the offensive end,” Miami women’s coach Katie Meier said.
