New Manchester’s boys and girls track teams swept the Region 5-AAAAA meet in Cartersville on April 15.
The boys’ team won its first-ever region championship, amassing 117 total points.
The Jaguars’ first event win came in the 4x100 relay with the team of Marque Hall, Tyler Simmons, Terrence Jenkins, John Wilson and Darius Meabon posting a time of 42.26. Meabon also brought home the 400-meter individual crown while Jenkins finished first in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
The 4x400 meter unit including Amir Ali and Jaelin Morgan finished first as well.
The Jaguars’ girls team won its region meet for the second consecutive year, earning 120.5 points. Yamara Robinson won the long jump and triple jump individual events. The 4x100 relay team consisting of Kiara Slay, Jhordynn Datcher, Niata Alexander, Ashley Germany and Anika Carter won its competition with a time of 47.86. Alexander won the 400-meter dash while Carter earned the 100-meter and 200-meter victories.
“This is a special group that I’m extremely proud of and they competed like champions,” said New Manchester head coach Myron Terry.
Lithia Springs’ Lasheon Strozier won the boys’ competition in the long jump and triple jump at the same meet.
The Chapel Hill boys’ team won the Region 4-AAA meet in Rockmart on April 17. Cameron Lord won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the event. The girls’ team came in second.
At the Region 3-AAAAAA meet in Fairburn on April 19, the Douglas County boys’ and girls’ teams both finished fifth. Thunwa Klaihathai and Nicole Colley placed first and second respectively in the girls’ pole vault competition while Danny Shaughnessy won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.
The Alexander girls’ team placed fourth at the Region 5-AAAA meet on April 17 with Remel Williams and Bailey Baggett winning the 100-meter dash and pole vault, respectively. The boys’ team finished second.
