Hiram senior pitcher Dalton Jones had the best performance of his career against Lithia Springs on April 21 when he threw his first-career no-hitter for the Hornets and led them to a 10-0 shutout of the Lions. Jones also had seven strikeouts in the contest.

“My fastball wasn’t strong that day so I was trying to keep the batters off balance with my off-speed pitches,” Jones said. “They weren’t able to hit the pitches.”

Jones had a strong season overall for Hiram, also throwing a three-hitter and one-hitter in two separate starts this year. He also was one of the Hornets’ top hitters.

“Dalton has a live arm and he is fearless on the mound,” head coach Chad Tittle said. “Dalton also has great speed and swings the bat very well.  He is a wonderful young man with high character.”

Despite the Hornets’ season concluding last week, Jones has helped rebuild the program during his time on the squad, helping it make the state playoffs last season.

“I think the program is going in a good direction and we have some young talent that’s coming in,” Jones said.

Jones looks to play baseball starting this fall at Georgia Highlands College and pursue a career in sports, focusing on physical education training and coaching.
