Carter proceeded to win all four events at the Class 5A Sectionals in Fayetteville on April 16, qualifying for the state championships in Albany starting Thursday.
“The region meet was nerve-wracking because the weather has been crazy this year and it was cold but we were confident going into it,” Carter said. “I love my teammates and we’ve molded together knowing what we have to do for the best of the team.”
The Jaguars’ program is in only its third year of existence but the girls’ track team has developed into one of the top units in the state in short time.
“Coming into my freshman year, we all came from different middle schools and the chemistry was off,” Carter said. “We’ve worked and pushed each other hard because we have a shot of winning the state title.”
Carter is a member of the school’s Beta Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and plays infield for the softball team. She plans to pursue a career as a pediatric oncologist or in the neuroscience field.
