Locust Grove senior Drew Young had a remarkable regular season on the mound.

In 31 innings of work, Young posted a 7-0 record with a 1.17 ERA and 47 strikeouts.

“I couldn’t do it without God,” Young said. “I just keep working hard and try to glorify him in everything I do. I just want to be better than the person in the box. Just go up there with a bulldog attitude and try to make him hit my best pitches.”

“He’s just one of those gamer guys,” Locust Grove coach Stephen Phillips said. “He loves the game of baseball. When he gets the chance to compete on the mound, he is going to go as hard as he can and do whatever he can to help the team be successful. Because of that attitude and unselfishness that he has, it’s helped him become successful.”

As a result of his approach to the game, Young will continue to play on the next level after agreeing to attend Southern Union for the next two years.

“He’s worked hard and it’s paid off for him with having an opportunity to play at the next level,” Phillips said. “Once our season is over with, I wish him the best at the next level.”

Also a fan of Atlanta Braves pitcher Craig Kimbrel, Young has a 3.5 GPA and plans to major in business.
