The ELCA Chargers winning the 2013 Private Class A championship may have been great, but if the Chargers wish to repeat they will need a short memory and a new focus, starting Friday when the playoffs begin.

ELCA, which has won a school record 24 straight games, will host rival Landmark Christian in the opening for the second straight year.

However in the other classifications, which contain Henry County teams, the brackets are set.

In Class AAAA, Locust Grove (20-3) is scheduled to host Mary Persons (15-11) on Friday.

“We’re going to play everything inning by inning and pitch by pitch,” Locust Grove coach Stephen Phillips said. “We’re not going to look ahead. We’re not going to focus on the fifth inning. We’re going to focus on the first inning and being successful out of the gate.”

Last season, these two teams met in the second round and Locust Grove won the series 2-1.

“We’re just going to approach it like we did last year,” Locust Grove senior Drew Young said. “We’re going to take it one game at a time and go in there and try to get the win.”

In Class AAAAAA, Luella is also hosting a first-round series and is scheduled to welcome Marietta. The Lions advanced to the second round last year.

In Class AAAAA, Union Grove will hit the road and is scheduled to visit Greenbrier. In Class AAAA, Woodland will travel as well, visiting Veterans.
