Local players named to

All-State lacrosse team


A number of local lacrosse players were selected to the 2014 Georgia High School Boys All-State lacrosse teams by the High School Coaches Council of the local chapter of US Lacrosse last Monday.

In Class A-AAAAA, Westminster players Read Ziegler, Raines Shamburger and Charlie Trense and Lovett teammates Ben Flood and Will Russ were selected as All-Americans.

Westminster’s J. Paul Meyer, Holy Innocents’ player Sam Fallon and Marist’s Joey Paris were chosen as Academic All-Americans. Midfielders Ziegler and Russ and defenders Shamburger and Trense and goalkeeper Flood were among the local players chosen to the A-AAAAA first team All-State unit, along with Marist’s Kevin Coughlin.

Second team All-State selections included attackers Trip Wray (Westminster) and Hughes Moffatt (Lovett), goalkeeper William Hudson (Westminster) and midfielder Patrick Girard (St. Pius X).

Honorable mention All-State players included attacker Logan Devereaux and midfielder Cole Haverty (Westminster) and specialty player Crosby Matthews (Lovett).
