The Blessed Trinity senior and Georgia Southern signee closed out her prep career with a state championship, winning the Class AAA 800-meter run with a time of two minutes, 14.21 seconds at the state girls’ track and field meet in Albany May 3.
Willett – a four-time state-meet qualifier -- also teamed up with Anna Gandolfo, Madeleine Iassogna and Shannon Innis to win the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:59.95 – the school’s inaugural state title in that event.
With her winning efforts in the 800 and 1,600 relay, Willett helped lead Blessed Trinity to a third-place finish in the AAA team standings.
Willett also won the 400 in AAA at the state meet as a sophomore in 2012.
“I had all the confidence in the world that Bailey would perform to her utmost ability and she did not disappoint,” Blessed Trinity coach Ryan O’Sullivan said. “To end her high school career with new state championships in the 800-meter run, 4x400-meter relay and new school records in both events is a fitting way for her to go out. Bailey leaves Blessed Trinity as one of the most decorated track and field athletes in school history and I look forward to watching her run at Georgia Southern over the next four years.”
