In only his first year of high school golf JonErik Alford will be playing for a state championship when the Class A private school golf tournament is held in Augusta Monday.

The freshman standout qualified for the state tournament after shooting a 73 to lead Mount Pisgah to a second-place finish at the Class A private school tournament in Locust Grove May 5.

Alford shot a 72 and earned low medalist honors as he led the Patriots to a third-place showing at the Area 4A tournament April 22.

“JonErik has been a top performer for McIntosh since playing up on the middle school golf team as a fifth grader,” Mount Pisgah Christian golf coach Frank Martini said. “The wet, cold weather and an extended basketball season reduced the time JonErik had to prepare for this golf season, but he is peaking at the right time. His strong performance at the area tournament and sectional qualifying [last] Monday hopefully will continue as we attempt to win our first state Class A private golf championship. Even though he is a freshman, JonErik is a great role model for young golfers on and off the course.”
