Douglas County voters will see a number of interesting races on the ballot in tomorrow’s primary election.

The most crowded race involves the Douglas County Board of Education where the senior member of the board, Republican incumbent Sam Haskell, not only faces opposition in the primary tomorrow as he meets fellow Republican Lauren McCoy but, if successful, will face a Democratic challenge in November against the winner of tomorrow’s three-candidate Democratic primary involving Tyler Barr, Denny Bridges and Michelle Simmons.

In the Georgia Senate, District 30 incumbent Mike Dugan, R-Carrollton, will face a familiar foe in the challenge of Republican Bill Hembree of Winston.

The two have faced one another before as this is a rematch of their 2012 runoff which led to Dugan’s election to the senate seat.

The winner of this Republican primary will face Democrat James H. Nixon in November.

Another interesting primary race occurs on the Douglas County Commission where District 4 Republican incumbent Ann Jones Guider faces fellow Republican J.R. McCoy.

In the U.S. House of Representatives, the District 13 race will be one to watch.

Here, incumbent David Scott, D-Ga., faces the challenge of Michael Owens.

In non-partisan contests, the race for state court judge has incumbent W.O. “Neal” Dettmering facing the challenge of Sonya Compton.

The Douglas Neighbor Newspaper will be reporting primary election results as they come in after polls close at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
