Woodland junior Jillian Sloane didn’t close the track and field season exactly how she would have liked but she isn’t upset either about her second-place finish in the 800 at the GHSA Girls’ State Track Championships.

“Of course for anybody when you are so close it’s a sad thing, but I believe that even though it was disappointing, God might have something else in store for me so I just got to take it gracefully and be happy with the season that I had,” Sloane said.

Also Sloane, along with senior Emani Collins, Temperance Newsom and Sandra Nwosu, finished fifth in the 4x400 relay.

“I was very proud of our team,” said Sloane, who ran the anchor leg.

“We had a freshman and a sophomore but were able to impress a lot of people.”

Once track season rolls around next year, Sloane will almost be done with two years of college since she is also enrolled at Clayton State. She has a 4.0 grade-point average and an interest in pursuing a degree in mass communications.

“I’m looking forward to having a dominant senior year and being able to have a lot of options about where to go to college,” said Sloane, who has an early interest in UCF and Florida State. “I’m excited for what it is going to bring and definitely looking forward to getting a gold medal.”
