Roswell entrepreneur Zara Foroutan discovered a need for a local coffee shop one day when driving around town looking for a place where she and her daughter could sit and socialize but not for a big dinner.

“I didn’t want to go to Midtown,” she said. “I didn’t want to go downtown.”

Foroutan opened Coffee Bianco on May 6 in a new shopping strip on Holcomb Bridge Road, just east of Old Alabama Road. The business offers a variety of coffee drinks, including the signature Bianco latte, which contains caramel and hints of orange. There are also different varieties of tea, smoothies, juice and hot chocolate.

Foroutan, who has a background in architecture and interior design, said she studied coffee for two years before opening the business.

In addition to beverages, Coffee Bianco serves up locally baked pastries and sweets, oatmeal, bagels, waffles and fresh fruit. For a light lunch or dinner, customers can enjoy soup, sandwiches, salads or stuffed grape leaves.

“We don’t offer a big lunch [or dinner],” Foroutan said. “We make it healthy.”

She said she works with local vendors to supply the baked goods and ingredients for other menu items.

“I try to support local,” said Foroutan, who has lived in Roswell for about 30 years. “My belief is we have to support Georgia [businesses]. Georgia should grow more. I support local people, because I’m local.”

She said the community’s response to the coffee shop has been very positive, with both the feedback she gets directly and from online reviews.

“In a short time, we’ve built up repeat customers,” she said. “The support of the people makes me so encouraged to do more. I really appreciate the Roswell [community]. They are so, so supportive.”

Foroutan said it is important for her to provide a welcoming, friendly experience for all customers. She wants Coffee Bianco to be the place where customers come to study, socialize or surf the Web all while enjoying delicious beverages and a light meal.
