Connor Burns has had his share of big games during his successful junior season at King’s Ridge Christian.

None were bigger, however, then the two outstanding performances that the center fielder/pitcher and Wake Forest commitment put together in King’s Ridge’s two-game sweep of Mount Paran Christian in the best-of-three Class A private school baseball championship series May 17.

Burns went 3-for-3 with three home runs and six RBIs to lead King’s Ridge to a 10-3 victory in the opening game.

He once again made the difference in game two as he came through with a bases-loaded single with two outs in the fourth inning to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead as they went on to beat Mount Paran 7-2 and win the first baseball championship – as well as first state title of any kind – in school history.

“He was definitely our go-to guy [in the state finals],” King’s Ridge coach Jason Couch said.

Burns also played a big role in King’s Ridge’s march to the state title on the mound, where he pitched a complete-game victory to help the Tigers complete a two-game sweep of Eagle’s Landing Christian in the Class A private school semifinals.

“Connor has been a solid starting pitcher, he’s been a solid outfielder and, obviously, a great hitter,” Couch said.
