Lithia Springs rising senior Lasheon Strozier concluded his track and field season in stellar fashion, winning the Class 5A triple jump championship at the Georgia High School Association state meet in Jefferson May 10.

Strozier earned the title by jumping a distance of more than 47 meters to secure the championship. He also placed seventh in the long jump competition as well.

“It was a tough win because I was going directly against strong competitors,” Strozier said.

Despite Strozier only participating in jumping events for two years, he finished this past season undefeated in triple jump competitions.

“The entire team worked hard on techniques, especially during spring break, and that made us better,” he said.

The Lithia Springs coaching staff has been impressed with Strozier’s effort on and off the track.

“He’s a great student that makes top-notch grades and a leader on the track,” head coach Josh Weaver said.

“He’s one of the hardest working student-athletes and his work ethic is up there with some of the best I’ve ever coached.”

Strozier also runs for the Quicksilver club track team during the summer in different events including the 400-meter dash and hurdles. He is also a member of the drama club at Lithia Springs with a focus on acting.

Strozier plans to major in business upon entering college while pursuing his goal of becoming an Olympian.
