“We have a fabulous time at our camp. Our masters, the people who teach at our camp, are brilliant. They are local Henry County teachers and artists who are professionals in their different fields,” Lynna Schmidt, camp artistic and theater director and alliance president, said in a statement.
Children who have completed kindergarten through third grade can enroll in the half-day Exploring the Arts camp.
The cost is $100 per camper.
Those who completed fourth through eighth grade can choose full-day Visual Arts or Performing Arts camps.
The cost is $150 per camper.
On June 20, campers will meet at the Henry County Performing Arts Center in McDonough.
That evening, all young people from the three camps will end their week with an art show and musical performance at 7 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
“Being a part of the camp for 19 of its 20 years, I have watched it grow from a small, half day camp to what it is today,” Schmidt said. “We want the children to learn something new about the arts, make new friends and enjoy every minute. At the end of the week, the campers perform a full musical, which is amazing after only five short days of exploring the arts.”
Since the Henry Arts Alliance’s summer Arts Camp began in 1994, it has grown from 30 participants to more than 150 children spending the week learning about the arts.
