Lacrosse standouts to play in national tournament

A number of north Fulton standouts will take their place among some of the best high school lacrosse players in the nation at the 2014 Brine National Lacrosse Classic in Boyds, Md., June 30 through July 3.

The boys’ portion of the event is divided into tournaments for rising juniors and seniors and rising sophomores, while the girls’ competition features rising seniors, juniors and sophomores.

In the boys’ rising senior and junior tournament, Class AAAAAA state boys’ champion Roswell will have two players representing the Georgia team – rising senior midfielder Garrett Blake and rising senior attacker Andrew Thomas.

Johns Creek will have two players on the Georgia rising senior and junior team – rising senior midfielder Matthew Moran and rising senior attacker Bruce Silk – along with Centennial rising senior defender C.J. Mucker, Alpharetta rising senior midfielder Matthew Moore, Cambridge rising junior midfielder Jameson Wilkins and Alpharetta resident Blake Center – a rising senior attacker at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Three Centennial players are featured on the Georgia rising sophomore team – goalie Eric Cecere, attacker Stefan Russell and midfielder Luke Sadd.

Johns Creek also has three players on the rising sophomore squad – midfielders Roman Boothe and John Hennessy and attacker Sean Monahan.

Other local players representing Georgia in the boys’ rising sophomore tournament are Roswell midfielder Tamir Oknin, Cambridge goalie Benjamin Clark and St. Francis midfielder Sam Hamilton.

Blessed Trinity will have three players on the Georgia girls’ squad – rising senior midfielders Megan Lilly and Hannah Sacristan and rising sophomore midfielder Mary Markwordt.

Milton rising junior attacker Shannon McKay and Cambridge rising junior midfielder Melissa Birdsell are also among the players on the Georgia team in the girls’ tournament.
