LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Brook Run Dog Park unique, treasured

I am a Sandy Springs resident, and I take my dog to Brook Run Dog Park several times a week. It is my understanding that a change in location of the Brook Run Dog Park will be on [an upcoming] agenda for the Dunwoody City Council.

This dog park is unique in the greater Atlanta area in that it provides a calm, shady, large space for dogs who would otherwise have no opportunity to run and play off leash. No other dog park has lovely benches for humans and water stations for the dogs.

Brook Run does not have scorched patches of grass and mud as do other dog parks. This park is the only one which feels like a privileged area for dogs rather than the ugly, unkempt corner of some other park, which is unsuitable for any other use.

I have written to every City Council member requesting that they review a proposal for plans to appease the neighbors of the park and improve the erosion control issues of the park (submitted the last time this came up for vote -- the city never responded).

Our dogs need this park. Please help us bring attention to this matter!
