The Sandy Springs Police Department Thursday afternoon announced detectives this morning arrested Melissa Jackson, of Marietta, wanted in Sunday's incident in the parking lot at Lowe’s on Roswell Road.

She is charged with reckless conduct after police were called regarding her 2-year-old daughter being left in a car in the lot early in the afternoon. The child's name is being withheld by police because she is a minor.

According to a news release and the police's weekly crime report, witnesses called police after seeing the child crying and pressing against the vehicle's windows, which were up, at a time when the temperature was 86 degrees.

Jackson arrived soon after and following a brief confrontation with witnesses, left the location before the police arrived.

In an emailed response to questions about the case, Sgt. Ron Momon, a department spokesman, said the child was in the car for about 10 minutes.

Jackson was contacted Thursday and surrendered to detectives at police headquarters.

The Cobb County Division of Family and Children Services is also involved in the case.
