159,152 Georgians vote early in primary runoff election

Early voting for Tuesday’s primary runoff election ended Friday, and the Georgia secretary of state’s office announced Monday the number of ballots cast during the three-week period, which started June 30.

While mail-in absentee ballots can still be cast until the polls close Tuesday at 7 p.m., the majority of early votes have been cast.

Based on the data released by the secretary of state’s office, about 80,000 less people have voted early in the primary runoff than in the main primary.

Early voting numbers for the primary runoff election:

Number of ballots cast: 159,152

Number of ballots voted in person: 134,267

Number of mail-in ballots returned: 24,885

Number of mail-in ballots outstanding: 12,717

Number of ballots cast, Republican: 121,678

Number of ballots cast, Democratic: 36,677

Number of ballots cast, nonpartisan: 797

Early voting numbers for the May 20 primary election:

Number of ballots cast: 239,281

Number of ballots voted in person: 214,975

Number of mail-in ballots returned: 24,306

Number of mail-in ballots outstanding: 14,385

Number of ballots cast, Republican: 147,995

Number of ballots cast, Democratic: 88,316

Number of ballots cast, nonpartisan: 2,970
