Fire destroyed the Town and Country Upholstery Co. at 6660 Bankhead Highway in Douglasville this morning, a county spokesman said.

According to Douglas County government spokesman Wes Tallon, the Douglas County Fire Department and EMS received a report today at 3:40 a.m. that smoke was coming from the rear of the business.

A firefighter was injured while fighting the fire and was transported to WellStar Douglas Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The fire department responded in force and the fire was declared under control by 7:06 a.m. Tuesday,” Tallon said.

He said firefighters believe the fire started in the basement of the business and worked its way toward the ceiling.

The owners of the business were out of town but have been notified about the fire.
