The proposal to turn Silver Comet Field, aka the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport, into a commercial airport is not one that I, nor many of my friends and Hiram neighbors wish to see come true. The many problems which outweigh any benefit, include, but are not limited to, noise, traffic, crime, cost overruns, kickbacks, continued excessive funding, security, safety as well as health concerns and of course, the loss of home and property values.
Now I know that this proposal is not a not-for-profit venture and there will be a lot of people with their hands held out for their share. This I am sure will include politicians, contractors, inspectors, permit issuers, concessionaires and many more. Is the Atlanta (Hartsfield-Jackson) Airport really such an inconvenience that a commercial airport in Paulding County is needed? Maybe it will create a few jobs, maybe a few small businesses. More likely, in my opinion, it will benefit those that want to continue to climb up the backs of the low and middle income families they take for granted, for their own personal gain. And we'll watch our home and property values fall, our children and elderly suffer with health issues, our taxes used in ways we don't agree, and our lives, once again, will be just a bit less special than they once were.
