Tuesday the Georgia Department of Education released its 2014 Alert Schools list as part of the state’s waiver from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. None of the local public schools in the Atlanta, Cobb County and Fulton County districts were on the list. No local schools were on last year’s list either.

According to a news release, Alert Schools are defined as one of the following:

o a Title I or non-Title I school in the state

o based on the lowest achievement of the “all students” group in terms of proficiency on the statewide assessments

o has demonstrated a lack of progress on those assessments over three years in the “all students” group

o may not be identified as a Priority School or Focus School

This year the Atlanta district had eight schools on the Alert Schools list, the Cobb district one and the Fulton district two. In 2013 the Atlanta district had three on the list and the Cobb and Fulton districts each had none.
