WSB-TV Channel 2 announced last month it will broadcast the 2014 Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards, The Shulers, Saturday from 8 to 10 pm. The awards are an anchor program of the ArtsBridge Foundation (the arts education arm of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre near Vinings), which recognizes and celebrates excellence in high school musical theater.

Jovita Moore and Fred Blankenship, anchors for Channel 2 Action News, will host the sixth annual primetime program from the centre, where the awards show took place in April. The Shulers, named after Georgia’s Tony Award-winning actor Shuler Hensley, honors individual students and high schools in 17 different categories. Hensley is back once again to perform with students while teaching many professional techniques learned throughout his career on Broadway.

The nomination process has expanded from 16 high schools to 59 from all over Georgia. This year’s program also includes advice from Broadway stars including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan as they answer questions from Georgia students during the telecast.
