Children will get a chance to sit behind the wheel of some of their favorite vehicles Aug. 23 as Touch A Truck returns to Alpharetta for its 16th year.

The family friendly event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wills Park by the Wacky World playground, will showcase various types of trucks and other vehicles including fire engines, police cars, heavy-duty construction equipment, motorcycles, buses, entertainment vehicles, military vehicles and more.

Jenny Simpson, recreation supervisor at the Wills Park Recreation Center, said there should be about 60 vehicles on display. The vehicles are sourced from various locations, she said, but the majority comes from the metro Atlanta region.

“Some are from Lawrenceville,” Simpson said. “Some are from Alpharetta or Roswell. Some are from Atlanta or Douglasville. They come from all over.”

She said the event encourages interaction as children are allowed to honk the horns, crawl in the vehicles and take photos.

“We’ll also have animal balloons, face painting and inflatables for the kids too,” Simpson said.

Though the community event is geared for all ages, she said children really have fun each year.

“I hope [attendees] have an enjoyable time and get to see some unique vehicles they haven’t gotten to see before and that they just have an enjoyable afternoon with their families,” Simpson said.

She expects about 5,000 attendees or more. While there is no admission cost for the event, guests interested in purchasing food from vendors or buying event T-shirts must bring cash. Toddler- and youth-size shirts will be available for $5 each.
