Sunday sales are legal inside Paulding’s two cities, where Hiram voters overwhelmingly approved it in November 2011 and Dallas voters did so in November 2013.
However, only 2 percent of the county’s 80,000 registered voters – about 1,700 -- cast ballots in March 2013 and voted 55 percent to 45 percent against the sales outside Paulding's cities.
Post 1 Commissioner Dave Carmichael said he agreed a November vote would show how a greater percentage of Paulding voters felt.
“But there certainly wasn’t anything holding people back [in 2013], so they did have the opportunity,” he said.
Post 2 Commissioner Todd Pownall said numerous residents called him and other county officials in 2011 asking them to put the question before voters.
“We did the special election and … people had the opportunity to [vote on] it,” he said. “Sometimes we put things out there to vote until some people get what they want.”
All commissioners, including Tommie Graham of Post 3 and David Barnett of Post 4, voted against it, while Chairman David Austin voted for it.
