Longtime resident and software engineer John Park has qualified to run for the open District 2 seat on the Brookhaven City Council. The one-time technical consultant for Bioterrorism and Emergency Preparedness at the CDC was born in South Korea and moved to the U.S. at the age of six.

“I am excited to announce that I am officially a candidate for Brookhaven City Council,” Park said at a press conference shortly after filing his paperwork with the city clerk. “I announced just a few short weeks ago, but I’ve already spoken to many people around the district. I’ve been listening ... and will continue to listen.”

“A city council should listen to and then implement innovative ideas,” Park said. “As Councilman, I will propose small, attainable projects such as connecting Ashford Park to Drew Valley with a path so that the two communities can safely travel to and enjoy all the parks in the district without getting into a car. I call it the Brookhaven Beltline.”

The special election to fill the empty District 2 seat on city council will be Nov. 4.
