The Big Peach Sizzler 10K returns to Atlanta Monday with a 7:30 am kickoff. The race is expected to attract more than 2,000 runners who will trek down Peachtree Street from the Chamblee MARTA station through Brookhaven to Buckhead on a course that is a popular 2015 Peachtree Road Race qualifier.

The race features electronic timing and a post-race celebration at the finish line in the Buckhead Station shopping center. As runners celebrate their race finish, they will enjoy food, music, prizes, massage, yoga and more to round out their race experience. In addition, all race finishers will receive a Saucony shirt to commemorate their race.

The race is presented by Miles for Cystic Fibrosis, an Atlanta-based charity that raises funds to support research towards finding a cure, along with assisting families struggling with the high cost of cystic fibrosis. The organization also encourages a healthy lifestyle, with a key focus on exercise.

The illness — an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system — was first recognized in the 1930s. In 1955, children with the illness were not expected to live long enough to attend grade school. Today, thanks to continued research supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and specialized care, an increasing number of people with the illness are living into adulthood and leading healthier lives that include careers, marriage and families of their own.

“The sizzler keeps getting bigger and better every year,” said Becky Penuel, executive director of the Atlanta-based organization. “We’re excited to partner with the Big Peach Running Co., Saucony and our other great sponsors who help make this race such a fabulous event. We also appreciate all the support we have gotten from the Atlanta running community who participate in the race, as they help us work towards a better and brighter future for children and adults with cystic fibrosis.”

According to Penuel, the organization has raised money and awareness since 2007 through its fundraising team of runners called Team 65Roses, which includes runners who have the illness themselves.

“We are delighted to host the Big Peach Sizzler 10K as another way to raise awareness and money for CF, as all the race proceeds go directly to our charity for support to the CF community,” said Penuel.
