However, what the junior defensive lineman lacks in size, he more than makes up for in heart and determination.
Herbert certainly proved that in Lovett’s season opener against Pace Aug. 22, when he recorded 3.5 sacks for 19 yards in losses and five tackles to help lead the Lions to a 38-3 victory.
It is the second year of varsity football at Lovett for Herbert, who was a part of the Lions’ Class AA state championship team in 2013.
Lovett coach Mike Muschamp said he is impressed by the effort that Herbert gives on the field and how he is able to overcome his small stature on the field.
“He does a good job for us,” Muschamp said. “He doesn’t have tremendous size, but he’s got great quickness and an unbelievable motor. He plays hard on every single snap. He’s outmatched [in size] on every single snap, but he doesn’t care. He still plays hard.”
In addition to football, Herbert is also a member of the Lovett wrestling team.
